It seems like variable fonts are finally taking their spot 
Apple and Google showed variable versions of SF and Roboto (I believe Apple will announce native VF support for macOS/iOS during WWDC), Figma announced VF support yesterday.
In this light, “test install” checkbox for VFs could be helpful.
