Finals only at the end of a word

Is there an OpenType-way to add finals only at the end of word, even if the user adds the feature to the whole text?
In other words: can OpenType prevent adding the feature to the whole word, and just use the last letter?

Is that possible? Or do the users single-handedly have to select the last letter of a word and apply the fina feature to it?
