I have a Ŗ glyph and it is named /uni0156, when I want to generate a /uni0156.sc by using the formula uni0156= uni0156.sc, it creates an empty glyph because it is expecting /Rcommaccent as a component.
You are right. It happens even when Custom Naming is enabled in Font Info > Other Settings.
When I copy paste a glyph from another font, same things happens, gets renamed as well.
[Edit] Actually what this coment is not true, I think it was the same thing, generating fonts.
If a glyph name has a dot in it “.” as part of the generating process it doesn’t work at all.
I.e.
_h.f+circumflex=_hcircumflex.f
Generates a blank glyph
