Getting MS Word to use bold/italic cuts

Wondering if it’s possible to program a font in Glyphs so that MS Word will choose the designed bold or italic cuts when you click the bold/italic buttons instead of forcing a bold/slant?

Thanks!

That can be done. Check the Style Linking settings in the Instance settings.

This is covered in the Naming tutorial.

Excellent! Thanks so much guys

Ok, so largely style linking works very well for me, but I have an issue with TextEdit.

I’ve made a family of 5 fonts. A roman+italic, bold+italic and display. If I pick the roman cut and for instance press cmd+b, it applies my bold cut as intended, but if i press cmd+b again to reverse back to roman, it picks my display cut instead. This is not the case in Word however, here it switches back to roman.

Can you send me the .glyphs file please to support (at) (this website without www). I will have a look.

I figured it out. It had to do with the fact that I’d called one of the cuts “Display” simply. Changing its name to “Bold Display” did the trick.
