Glyphs 3.3 (3316) Suddenly Crashing

Hi, I have Glyphs 3.3 (3316) and since last night it has been crashing for some reason. It seems to crash every time it wants to autosave.

It crashes on both my Mac Studio and MacBook Pro. Sonoma System 14.6.1

Can you try to disable autosaving by running the following code in the Macro Panel:

NSDocumentController.sharedDocumentController().setAutosavingDelay_(0)

and see if that makes a difference? If so, could you send us the file that you are working on (private message here or to support so we can have a look?

Hi Florian, thanks for the reply. It seems that the crash is really due to the file I’m working on. So I’ll send it to you on that email.

Thanks for the file. However, I cannot reproduce the issue on my Mac, also Glyphs 3316. Autosaving works well as expected.

When the app crashes, do you get a crash report window with a lot of text? Could you send me the complete text of that crash report?

Now for some reason it seems to work and not crash, I don’t know I don’t understand. I’ll try to test it some more.

It could be a plugin or some other configuration. Could you go to the Help menu in Glyphs and click Copy Diagnostics? Paste that text here or in a private message, maybe that helps me understand what could have been the cause.

Hello Florian, for some reason my glyphs are crashing again, I downloaded a new update today, I have now Glyphs 3.3 (3325) and when I open a font and I’m in a glyph window and press: Command + C, it all crashes.

This has been reported a lot already, downgrade to an earlier version for the time being: Glyphs Versions

Thank you Sebastian, it works.

We could reproduce and fix the issue. An update with the fix will be available shortly.

Update is out. Sorry for the trouble.

Hi,

Glyphs keeps crashing a lot for me (when opening a file by double-clicking on it from the Finder, when selecting different options in the export window, etc.) I can’t seem to find out the exact cause but it’s been like this for the past 4-5 cutting edge releases I’d say.

Mac OS 14.6.1 (x86_64)
Python 3.11.9 (Glyphs)

Can you try to start without plugins. Hold down the Option + Shift key when you start Glyphs.

No crash when I start without plugins. But it doesn’t happen all the time with the plugins so it’s hard to see exactly where it comes from.

OK, it crashed again when opening a file from Finder (when the app isn’t already on). It might come from a plugin but I don’t know which one.

Remove half of all plugins from the Plugins folder. See if it still crashes. If so, remove another half. If it stops crashing, remove all and put back the ones you removed before. Do that until you narrowed it down.

OK, so unfortunately I didn’t have the time to run many many checks, but it seems that it comes from Speed Punk, Variable Font Preview or Show Stems Pro. Is anyone else having this crashing issue?

can you remove and re-install Speedpunk. The newest version is written in ObjectiveC and not python any more. The old version was experiencing issues (never when it was installed alone, only when some other plugin was installed).
