Glyphs 4 file compatibility with Glyphs 3

We are considering getting a Glyphs license for a contractor of us, but one can only get Glyphs 4 now.

We have not yet committed our workflows to Glyphs 4 and want to allow ourselfs a grace period for testing and upgrading our workflows slowly.

So the question is: How compatible are the files our contractor creates or works on in Glyphs 4 if we want to open and further edit them in Glyphs 3?

I saw some things being changed in the files, like removed quotes in values or so. This would cause quite a PIA using git. What are your thoughts, please?

We can supply a Glyphs 3 license.

That means compatibility attempts are rather not recommended?

Glyphs 4 still writes file format version 3 files with the formatting that Glyphs 3 used. If you saw differences, let us know so we can fix it.
