Glyphs stuck on export

Hi,

I have a font for which Glyphs3 is sometimes getting stuck on export with no errors (the export font dialog just stays forever). It is not always reliably reproducible; sometimes the export is fine and restarting Glyphs usually works.

I followed:

and disabled subroutines, but none of the other suggestions apply since there is no error message.

I am using Version 3.4.1 (3436) but I was using a newer version of Glyphs with this file but went back to 3.4.1 in the hope it would fix it (which it did not).

Any clues for what I can do to fix/get around this? Am happy to send the file in a private message if desired.

Does this mean that the export usually works if you open the file but doesn’t if you worked on it for a bit?
Can you try to start without plugins. Hold down the Option + Shift key when you start Glyphs.

Yes, exactly.

I can reproduce the error with all plugins disabled.

I case it helps, when I run “top” I usually see Glyphs using a lot of CPU when the export is working. When the export fails Glyphs disappears from top (or is so low I cannot notice where it is). I am not sure if there is any kind of logging for me to tell you more.

Do you use any scripts?
And can you narrow it down to what you need to do to make it break?

If you mean “scripts on export” the answer is no. If you mean scripts during workflow then yes.

I will continue to try to narrow it down. Removing collections of glyphs and/or features makes the export faster (obviously) and it feels less likely to hang, but it is hard to really pin it down.

I meant script during working on the file. So one of those script leaves the data in an invalid state. It would be great if you could narrow it down to the script that is causing it.

Whatever script I ran has made the changes in the past. Is there any logging or verbose options to export? Other than that all I can think to do is to delete glyphs until it works.

Is the file now stuck even when you reopen it? Then send me the the file. Otherwise work normally and every time you use a script, try to export. And as soon as it is stuck again, take note if the last two or three scripts you used and post that list.

Sorry, I understand better what you meant. It is not scripts that are causing the issue as I can open the file, export successfully a few times and then it gets stuck (doing no editing of any kind or scripts in between). It is possible that a script I have used previously has done something to the file.

I will spend some time trying to give a “minimal” example and perhaps then send you the file.
