Hinting on interpolation bouncy

I have 3 masters that interpolate. The alignment zones / hinting work for the masters but the interpolations are not as effective. I keep making adjustments to the masters to see if it affects the interpolated weights but no such luck. What’s the best way to hint for interpolations?

Are the zones and stem settings compatible?

I assume so. How would you know if they aren’t?
