I’m looking through some printing tests at 8.5pt and have noticed one letter, the B, is consistently reproducing a heavier vertical stem and lighter curves than it actually has.
I’ve noticed this same shape popping up when autohinting has gone wrong.
I manually edited hints on it and lo and behold it disappeared in the print out. This leads me to wonder what else I’m seeing as a consequence of auto hinting. I don’t feel v comfortable about this!
I didn’t even realise these hints would be used by the printer? Perhaps this would not be an issue if autohinting was correctly set up? (single master) - values below
Vertical: cap H stem, lowercase n stem
Horizontal: bar on H, bar on t
