how many ligatures i can have in my typeface , i mean what is the limit number ? and i saw some people having too many ligatures in their type and having problems in exporting them , that’s why it is really important for me to find out how many ligatures i can put in in my type before starting to add them .
Depends. You can have a maximum of 65,536 glyphs in your font, and they cannot all be ligatures. Plus, the GSUB table in the compiled font must not exceed 64 kilobytes. I would say a few thousand.
But if I needed so many ligatures, I would try and rethink my concept, and perhaps use contextual alternates instead, which reduces the required number of glyphs (and amount of feature code) significantly.
