How to handle alignment zones when cap height = ascender = x-height?

If cap height, ascender and x-height all have the same value, is it correct to use only one alignment zone for all three? The handbook says: “Zones must not overlap. There must be a minimum distance of one unit between them.” But Georg Seifert suggested in this thread to define both ascender and cap height with the same zone value. What is the best practice?

Define the same overshoot for both. Keeping a cap height and ascender value can be useful during your design process. They’ll be flattened in the exported font anyway, but only if they share exactly the same values.

Especially the x-height is used a lot, so keep that at the very least. Scripts, plugins and some Glyphs-internal calculations rely on this.

Thank you! Just to avoid any misunderstanding: in my case, all three values cap height, ascender and x-height are the same. So, defining all three with the same overshoot would be correct, right?

Correct.

When you’re designing lowercase classified glyphs, the cap height alignment zone won’t show to you . Capital glyphs (I believe) do not show you ascenders. So keep all three!
