In the export options of font information, font names can support Chinese, but importing Chinese font names causes errors here. Why can fonts have Chinese names while Glyphs doesnβt support them?
Can you show a ttx of the name table from that font?
The Font Name is supposed to be ascii only. It is put into nameID6 and that is never shown to the user.
From the Opentype spec:
PostScript name for the font. Name ID 6 specifies a string which is used to invoke a PostScript language font that corresponds to this OpenType font. When translated to ASCII, the name string must be no longer than 63 characters and restricted to the printable ASCII subset, codes 33 to 126, except for the 10 characters β[β, β]β, β(β, β)β, β{β, β}β, β<β, β>β, β/β, β%β.
So either Glyphs picks the wrong name id entry or there is a Chinese string in the wrong place. Can you send me a .otf file for testing?

It was both, none ascii nameID 6 in the font and Glyphs picking the wrong one.
I have fixed it. Thanks for the file.
