Inconsistent mask behaviour Glyphs 3

Hey,

New Glyphs user here, I just started playing around with the application as I am soon starting a project where I need some custom fonts. I will need to use masking to create a nice worn out style to the glyphs and stumbled upon a behaviour that I figured might be a bug.

I fail to get masking working for custom shapes where using the built-in primitives seems to work as expected:

(The selected shape is set as the mask here)

I saw another post that had similar problems, but that was for Glyphs 4, maybe there was an update that created the same problems for both versions perhaps? Or can it be that I’ve gotten the masking functionality wrong here?

Very grateful for help on this issue as I’m looking forward to explore more into the features of the application!

Cheerz!

Here’s the thread with similar problems but in Glyphs 4:

The path direction of the mask shape is wrong. All “black” shapes need to be counter clock wise. Counter shapes (e.g. the inner path in a “o”) need to be clock wise. This is a speciality with font outlines.

So right click both of your shapes and select “Reverse selected contours”.

That was a different problem.

That sure solved the problem! Then I’m good to go with my future endeavour! Many thanks for giving a newbie quick help!

Cheers!
