Intermediate master with axis issues

I am working on a typeface family that uses a few intermediate axis (bracket) layers and also using an axis layers. I am 99% sure that everything is set properly but when I go to view the letters with the brackets, the medium is a bit blacker than my black value. It seemingly works on variable weights but not on otf. I have had a friend look at it as well and can’t seem to figure it out. I am using Axis Location on the Custom Parameters

LMK if you need more info but I can’t seem to get it right.

You left out stems in the medium weight.

That’s because it shows the Medium export, not master.

Could you send me the file in a private message? I’ll have a look.

Set your font type to “Default”, not “Variable”.

@GeorgSeifert the “Font type variable” really should be removed, it’s very buggy and confusing for users.

I probably should do that.

Either that, or fix it

But judging from all the forum posts with related problems, it’s just causing issues.

And apparently it doesn’t achieve its purpose: giving the same interpolation as variable fonts. The results are radically different.

Thank you Sebastian. I appreciate your willingness to help. It means a lot. I assumed it was something pretty simple, but I could not figure out how to fix it.
