Is there a way to turn off seeing other interum master ghost images?
What do you mean. Can you show a screenshot?
do you mean those little eye icons in the layers palette next to those masters or layers you see?

Yes, click the eye in the other master to toggle visibility.

too tiny for me to see 
they should scale with the UI font. Have you tried bumping up your system fonts a little?
The font size is fine, Mark. I did try it, but it is too big for everything else. Thanks for helping though.
