I’m creating a joined script for teaching the handwriting in local elementary schools. Please, if somebody can confirm — is it still so, that we can’t just add separate joins between the letters? So we should attach all the joins to the previous or next letter to make all substitutions work.
You can use separate joins just fine. You just need to switch to the Global typesetter in Adobe apps.

Yes. The world ready composer is mostly quite good in terms of OpenType support.
