kindly seeking help & advice: diacritic markings for Cherokee language font

ᎣᏏᏲ! Today is my first day trying to use the demo for Glyphs. I have never tried to make a font before and don’t know what I’m doing or even if glyphs is the right tool for what I need - please excuse my ignorance.

I’m trying to find / create a way to better use diacritic markings when typing in Cherokee. I also want to figure out multiple diacritics, kind of like Vietnamese, for example. I can use combining characters like Ꭼ̋ or Ꭶ̌ but depending on operating system I’ve noticed these diacritics will display drastically differently. They display best on mobile operating systems. I’ve also noticed only some accent marks won’t even “play nice” with Cherokee characters, and certainly multiple accent marks don’t stack well and will often just clump together. All of this makes me wonder if I create my own Cherokee font, where I can add the anchors where needed and make sure the diacritics display well, will this achieve my goal for better displaying diacritics for typing in Cherokee? Would I be able to create a Cherokee font where I could even use multiple diacritics in space above the character?

I don’t know if creating a font could be a solution for this problem, if I need to look for other tools elsewhere, or if this is some kind of limitation of Cherokee characters in unicode or something like that. I really am ignorant of these kind of things.

I want to use diacritics for tone marking and for pronunciation aid. This is why I’m interested in stacking or displaying more than just one combining accent marker.

That is exactly what Glyphs can do. Have a look at this tutorial: Diacritics | Glyphs .
