I’ve been facing this issue, ie selecting a layer doesn’t show the layer; the selection ‘jumps’. back to the Regular (or first) master.
I sent an email on 8 Sept with a screen recording, and asked if I should start a new forum thread rahterr than send email unprompted.. This was 8 September. Not replied, so replying to this thread as the issue seems to have come up before.
I can resend the email if prompted, or send new recordings, so that Support is expecting it..
Between this issue and the cursor tracking wrongly issue (followed on another thread), it is becoming impractical to continue to finish my project..
Sometimes, Update Glyph Info works, temporarily, to ‘clear’ the tracking cissue, and sometimes a snip of Python works for the layer selection issue via the Macro panel: Glyphs.defaults [‘EditViewText’] = “”. Offering these in case they give a clue.
I moved this to a new topic as I suspect this is unrelated to an 10 year old discussion.
The layer selection jumping was an issue with very early versions of Glyphs 4, but it should be fixed for some time now. What version of Glyphs are you using? See Glyphs → About Glyphs and then the four-digit number like 4108.
The issue seems to be most often in layers of ligature glyphs. Editing becomes impossible because the layer cant be selected. Along with cursor mis-tracking it is a deadly combination
From my conversations here it appears I am unique in having this problem with Glyphs. If that’s so then the immediate cause/fix lies in some combination of OS, hardware and some extension.
You can duplicate the app and only update the copy. You can run both versions side by side.
But there are only minimal changes in the cutting edge version. So it should be save to use.
… is that as soon as ligatures with _parts enter the picture, the cursor tracks wrongly. Dbl clicking on a component or editing it through the info palette is the trigger. dbl clicking also ‘hides’ the element which is sought to be edited. Same pattern as before.
The layer selection also goes awry at this point, for the ligaure but also for encoded ones such as /n. Deleting the ligature clears both cursor tracking and layer selection issues.
edit: the cursor mis-tracking issue persists. It affects a patch near where the liguature was, but i have not mananged to systematically observe the length of the affected area., not everywhere in the edit window. I have to delete enough text for the issues to go away.
