Liga VS Calt features

Hi, what’s the main difference between using sub in the “liga” feature and using it in the “calt” feature?

Users/apps will expect (uncontextual) ligatures in liga, and contextual substitutions in calt. See this for reference:

The liga feature is for ligatures and calt is for everything else. If you have something that looks like an ligature but is build by substituting individual alternate glyphs, I still would put it in liga.
