Link Metrics With Master

I’m working on a layered font, with one layer being the base (BASE), and the other a complementary overlay (OVERLAY).

The side-bearings of BASE and OVERLAY are never the same, since they have to preserve the positioning relative to each other.

I tried using “Link Metrics With Master” set to “BASE”, but if I change the side-bearings of a BASE glyph, the OVERLAY doesn’t follow in sync (doesn’t preserve the offset).

I’d appreciate help on this.
