MakeOTF Error: 'kern' causes overflow

When I try to export my latest font as an OTF, I get this message: MakeOTF error - GPOS feature ‘kern’ causes overflow of offset to a subtable (0x1303a).

I’ve got a number of features, including .sso1, sso2, .init, .fina, .sc, etc and I’m wondering what’s going on.

The font is a bit complex/rough.

I visited this link, but I when I attempt to open the generateFont.command file, my Mac tells me it’s corrupted and tells me to put it in the trash.

Any ideas on what could be causing this error? I flipped through the forums to find out if anyone had this specific error but I couldn’t find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Too many pairs. Have you tried applying groups and compressing kerning?

Yes, thanks so much, Mekkablue, compressing kerning pairs helped! Yay!

I have the same problem, compressing is not solving it. Any other ideas?

my .ufo now has 6K pairs…

Perhaps you can try adding the use extension kerning parameter. Will have to switch to the .glyphs file format though.

Or try to get rid of exceptions as much as possible.
