I created a font using transparent images for all the glyphs making use of SBIX to SVG and of course the iColor layers. This font works great across my macbook and that includes the preview when installing and all the design applications. I was new but i looked around in forums and googled stuff.
The problem is, everything works fine on macbook but I need to make the font work on windows too. But when I took the font over, there was no preview while installing font, I tried typing in word but there is zero visibility.
Can someone help me convert this (supposidly mac-only font) to a windows compatible font please? I have ben making vector based fonts since a long time but this whole concept of bitmap based or PNG based font making and all layer stuff is new for me.
Per font export, there should be only one color font type. So, one for sbix/iColor, and a separate one for svg. You can do that with different instances in Font Info > Exports and the respective parameters:
The SBIX to SVG parameter needs the sbix pixel size it should prefer for conversion to svg (because sbix can have different resolutions in parallel, svg only one).
Basically, Windows does support sbix. Which versions of Word and Windows are you using?
Thanks for your response and the help, I got caught up and couldnt write back earlier, I apologize. It is Windows 11 64b and Office 365.
Well the parameters settings you shared really helped. I am at very beginner level but thanks to you I managed to get the font working on word in windows (success 1), however the preview was still missing and chatgpt suggested windows cannot preview pngs and needs fall back vector art so put that in regular layer and so i did. This too worked and the windows showed the fall back vector art as preview (success 2).
I am very happy so far but when adding the vector art to regular layer i faced another issue, when adding the vector art some of the pngs jumped up and i had to adjust the vector art x placement for the pngs to be the right place.
The result is the lazy do part where previewing or when word swtiches to dark mode even the though the actual font works great.
I have a feeling this has to do with how the PNGs were setup that i used in this project so I have added screenshots of my PNGs and settings too.
I would dearly love to have two more successes, get the fall back vectors in proper place too and icing on the cake would be if the preview mode (plus word dark mode) shows PNGs instead of fall back vector art.
I can share my glyph file too if you d like.
Regads to everyone who helps noobs like me,
Sumi
ps, after i realized i can only attach one image i combined everything in one.
in sbix fonts (sometimes) the bounding box of the default layer will determine the position of the image. So it is a good idea to keep them empty or to add a tiny piece of outline that defines the position of the image.
