Hello,
I need to assign a key to the new Saudi Riyal currency symbol. Is there a correct way of doing this?
You can use Unicode Character “﷼” (U+FDFC) or add your own glyph for it.
You can also add a substitution rule in calt
(or any other feature) to substitute the word for the symbol.
It’s worth noting that the unicode symbol is for iranian rial.
Thank you for the clarification! I understand that the Unicode “﷼” (U+FDFC) is for the Iranian Rial. However, I was hoping to learn if there is a dedicated Unicode character specifically for the Saudi Riyal, as the Persian Rial symbol can be a bit challenging to access.
A substitution rule could be a great workaround.
There is not currently a Unicode value nor is there one in the Unicode Roadmap. Many designers plan to use FDFC for the Saudi Riyal wth the Iranian symbol as an alternate.
Any other Unicode would be as difficult to access.
Note that U+FDFC is a compatibility character not really used in Iran either. According to Chapter 9 – Unicode 16.0.0 :
U+FDFC RIAL SIGN is a currency symbol used in Iran. Unlike the AFGHANI SIGN, U+FDFC RIAL SIGN is considered a compatibility character, encoded for compatibility with Iranian standards. Ordinarily in Persian “rial” is simply spelled out as the sequence of letters, <0631, 06CC, 0627, 0644>.
