I love the app. My tool for the last 8 years, and there’s still so much to learn.
I would like to ask why it is so easy to delete vendor ID if opening a font file like “.otf”? Feels like something that perhaps should really be engraved in the outcome file.
That’s not for Glyphs to control. That’s how the OpenType font format works. The vendor ID is just a name table entry among others, which you can edit/delete with very basic tools. Using TTX, for example, you can edit a font binary as XML data.
I realise that is is very easy, even for non-nerds but what we mention is is just graphic user interface interpretation of that tables, right?
If your “.glyphs” is based on “.otf” then it is “.tooftf”. My case was loosing the “.glyphs” file and recreating, so not a thief. Loosing your “.glyphs” file is not cool. Especially when no git was commited.
edit:
I also did 2,5 years of free fonts for education without ID check and now I wonder if trust shall ever be applied if there is that U+0024 or U+20AC or whatever other.
For that reason, Glyphs can’t open .woff files. Those are clearly not meant for editing and can be relatively easily obtained from websites.
Other than that it is a licensing/contract, not a technical issue.
