Outlining images

Is there a way to automatically outline an image to turn the edges into a glyph? I have many similar images of different letters that I wish to create an entire font from.

Do you mean something like Image Trace in Illustrator? Glyphs has a similar feature, yes.

There’s a plugin available in Plugin Manager called Trace Image.

Thanks for the info. If I had a simple image it would work better. I got a million points but it did not outline. It had a point for every last smudge on the image. The text image had two dozen loops. No amount of simplification or shortening helps. Also, if you put in a shadow but decide that you don’t want it, too late. The Undo does not work and the Revert does not change anything

Now you know: autotrace really sucks. Always has and likely always will. You can draw the letter a lot quicker than you can clean it up.

What does that mean?

I had a colorful image of a letter. I converted it to black and white. Then I pasted it into Glyph and asked for a trace. The resulting image had a million node points on it.

Can you post a sample of your image?

It depends on the settings. Experiment with algorithm and settings. And there are a couple of plugins for cleaning up. But keep in mind that a trace is always a lot of guesswork.
