Is there a method that does this? Specifically, the “Rename” option. Rename the kerning group in the kerning dict, and any associated kerning groups in glyphs.

What option? It exists in Glyphs already. I am asking about a method (function) in the Python scripting API.
To invoke this dialogue, go to Window > Kerning and rename a kerning group.
It is implemented on the Kerning Panel. You can get to it, but there is no proper way to tell it what font to use. So I would need to refactor this.
