Soft return [Indesign]

Strange behaviour with soft (shift) return in Indesign. When exportet to PDF, an unwished glyph appears here. Is there any relation from this Indesign command to the font file?

What glyph exactly?

Could be “space” (which was changed with a stylistic set and returns here to default).

Software often puts space or whatever glyph is at glyph ID 1 in places. Can you put another glyph at ID 1?

And I suspect that the stylistic variant has oulines? You have to be careful with that.

Just tested, yes Indesign falls back to default space. This one is here a black square. The ss feature turns it into a normal space (empty glyph). But soft retun does not take it when exported to PDF (inside the app it’s okay). Is there anything possible to fix this?

Don’t do this.

Keep your default space glyph blank. Then use, e.g., rlig feature to substitute it with the black square glyph.
