Tokens used in contextual kerning don't work for variable fonts

I try to create contextual kerning with tokens and it looks like it does not work within a variable font. Is this correct?

Which tokens? Number values don’t work yet, that’s true. It’s on our list though.

This is on my list.

Aah, I was really hoping this could work. Now our variable Thai fonts are producing different results to the statics. Can variable fonts support number values so the positioning interpolates correctly along the weight axis? Here’s my Thai MKMK code as an example

EDIT: or at least store an average value? Currently these rules are producing no effect whatsoever in the variable build.

How to write variable GPOS

That doesn’t work well with tokens, yet.

Thanks! Yes, I got it working with that approach. But writing one set of rules for the statics and another set for the variable fonts doesn’t seem the most efficient way. Especially in Burmese where I’m going to need several hundred rules for contextual kerning.

We still can’t seem to get number values working in a variable export, is that expected?

That is a known issue.
