a font of mine is uniwidth/duplexed (first VAR project …) and keeps its width in inDesign and Dinamo’s Font Gauntlet when changing the weight of the VAR.ttf.
In Illustrator however, the text ‘extends’ when adding weight. Visualized: The last letter on a line is standing further right than before. The other way around it also contracts when lowering the weight, obviously.
Does anyone know why that is, perhaps a missing custom parameter?
I went on and found the same behavior in other VAR fonts (right in InDesign, wrong in Illustrator), but also ones that don’t have the issue.
There may be bugs around this in InDesign and/or Illustrator. I’ve even seen a monospaced font (Source Sans Mono) expand slightly in width when the weight is increased via weight axis.
Thank you both. Unfortunately the bug remains in my case, also with the newest Illustrator version. I just wonder why some fonts have and some don’t. Reporting it to the Adobe Forum now.
