does anyone have any cautions about naming the normal roman weight of a typeface something other than Regular?

I practice it time of time and so far no problems have been detected, neither when exporting nor when using in an applications and web browsers. Here is the latest example of such a naming where I used the names like Blessed, Dark, Initials. Technically they are all Regular/Normal.
It is possible that a software can have difficulty interpreting non-standard naming. Especially if you try to employ B/I stylelinking.
