Variable fonts: reusing glyphs between two masters of an axis

I’m working on a font with two simple axes: weight axis (works as you would expected) and height axis (affects the height of all caps and only lowercase glyphs with stems and tails).

Therefore I would reuse all glyphs without stems and tails like a, c, e, i, m, n, o, r, s, period, comma etc. between both masters of the height axis, without having to cut and paste and manually adjust the metrics every time something changes in the glyph.

I have used the Virtual Master solution, but in this case I miss the overview while working. What would be the best way to do this?

You can do that differently. Add a “Virtual Master” (in Font > Custom Parameters) and give it the position the normal “High” master would get. Then remove the “High” master (keep a copy of the file around). Then add brace layers for the higher glyphs.
