Bracket Alts Won't Export

Hey everyone,

I’m using brackets to create alt glyphs.

• The alt glyphs show up when exporting .otf files
• The alt glyphs show up when I run Mekka’s Variable Font Tester
• The alt glyphs are no where to be found when exporting a variable file and loading it in Adobe Illustrator / InDesign.

I feel like I’m missing something small here.

Any thoughts / input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dylan

What versions of Glyphs and Illustrator do you have?

This was discussed in this thread: Variable font Alternate glyphs problem - #14 by GeorgSeifert

Hey Georg,

Thanks for your reply!

I’ve reviewed that thread again and tried every combination. The alt glyphs only work when using rvrn for Feature Variations. But it seems like this isn’t recommended?

Software Version:
Glyphs: 3.0.4
Illustrator: 26.2.1

Can you update to the latest cutting edge version (enable it in Preferences > Updates > Show cutting edge versions)?

I updated to the latest cutting edge.

The alt glyphs work in Indesign, but not Illustrator.

When I add the rvrn feature, the alt glyphs work in both programs. But it seems that using rvrn is not recommended based on the discussion in the thread you posted?

Can you send me your .glyphs file? I like to figure out why my test fonts work in Illustrator and yours does.

Hey George,

I’m getting back into this project.
Still seem to have the same issue.
I would love if you could take a look at the file.
Which address should I send it to?

Thanks again!

Send it to support at this domain. Or a link to the file in a direct message.

Wonderful! I sent you the file in a DM.
Many thanks!
